GET TO KNOW THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Take the smaller streets.
Browse Jimbocho, walk the lanes around Nippori or ride a few stops through Ōji and Arakawa. Choose one pocket and leave time to explore.
The story of this neighbourhood
Bookshops, fabric sellers, hilltop parks and a tram through everyday streets. This collection is for days when the smaller details of Tokyo become the main reason to go out.
Jimbocho’s booksellers and cafés make a natural pairing: browse without a strict list, then sit down with what you have found. It belongs to central Tokyo geographically, and works here as another way into the city’s quieter, more specialised shopping streets.
Nippori connects the Yanaka side of the tracks with a fabric-shopping district to the east. Farther north, Ōji and the Tokyo Sakura Tram offer a route through neighbourhood life, with Asukayama Park as a useful starting point.
SIGHTS & STORIES
Find your way into the place.

Jimbocho
Jimbocho
Browse the bookshops around Yasukuni-dōri and Suzuran-dōri.
A closer look
Some specialise in art, maps, photography or foreign-language books, making the district rewarding even if you do not read Japanese. Build in a curry lunch and a café stop rather than rushing between shelves.

Nippori
Nippori
On one side of the station, walk towards Yanaka Ginza and the residential lanes around it. On the other, explore Nippori Fabric Town’s textile and sewing shops.
A closer look
These are different halves of the visit; choose a focus or allow time to cross between them.

Oji & Arakawa
Oji & Arakawa
Start at Asukayama Park above Ōji, then use the Tokyo Sakura Tram, also called the Toden Arakawa Line, to explore the surrounding streets.
A closer look
Pick a couple of stops instead of treating the tram as a race from end to end. The park and tram make a particularly pleasant change from central Tokyo’s big stations.
