THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPHS

Photography
credits & licenses.

Our travel photographs are reproduced under the Creative Commons licenses, public-domain terms, or stock-photo licenses linked below. Each entry identifies the image and where it appears on this website.

Images have been resized for the website and may use responsive cropping. Historical prints and photographs on the city history pages retain their full framing. Homepage photographs use gradients and text overlays; the journey-planning photograph fades into the page background. Next-story preview images also use reduced opacity and an edge fade. Any adaptations we make to the photographs are shared under their respective linked licenses. Previous edits are noted individually.
